Elder walker

Department of Industrial Design, National Kaohsiung Normal University

Most elderly people with sub-health do not want to exercise due to their own physical conditions and fear of injury. The World Health Organization recommends that people over 65 years old should do at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity exercise per week. It also recommends doing exercises to promote balance and prevent falls three times a week. Research data shows that the most common exercise for the elderly is walking, so walking is designed as the main form of exercise. This product is designed to help the elderly with lower limb walking and balance training through cross-country trails. The target group is elderly people aged 60-70 who are not physically active and are in sub-healthy or above conditions but are able to move. They can improve their health while exercising in the company of others at community care centers (elderly activity centers). The design of the trail is based on common outdoor terrains, such as stairs, slopes, gentle slopes, balance beams, etc., so that it can effectively train the lower limb muscle strength, center of gravity transfer and sense of balance of the elderly. Handrails are set around it to ensure the safety of users.
