The process of making soy sauce is depicted in a linear manner, with the main character, a black soybean, participating throughout. Along the way, it encounters characters expressing various emotions and learns to understand and express different feelings, ultimately maturing into a fully-fledged soy sauce.

Black beans, shaped by six emotional encounters, evolve through the soy sauce-making process—becoming soy sauce itself. The first step in soy sauce brewing features a character inspired by the steamed bean machine, representing the emotion of anger. In the soy sauce brewing process, the fermentation with koji corresponds to a character that embodies the emotion of sorrow. The act of washing off the koji from the surface of the fermented black beans is represented by a character embodying the emotion of joy. The most time-consuming step in the soy sauce brewing process is aging in the vat for six months, represented by a character embodying a state of sleep. The process of taking the black beans, already yielding juice from the vat, and boiling them over fire is represented by a character embodying a state of dryness.
